I solved a Problem. Rekordbox Cover Art

My DJ set up, and therefore music library, is primarily housed in Traktor Pro. I've chosen to use uncompressed digital audio files, specifically, FLAC, it's a format I've grown to love — despite the lack of cover art within MacOS, but this post doesn't solve that technological let down — my problem lies with rekordbox.

Although newer Pioneer digital DJ players support FLAC, older players, including the popular CDJ-2000 Nexus, does not support it and so when I wanted to start playing on Pioneers again, I had to find either a new format, or an additional one.

I opted for MP3, obvious maybe, but it's one that would work, and be ultra portable when considering USB drives.

I converted my FLAC library to MP3 using the free converter app, fre:ac, however, cover art previously embedded within the FLAC files were nowhere to be seen in rekordbox.

After a lot of head scratching, it turns out the rekordbox needs a specific cover art setup.

My solution was to use Mp3tag, brilliant app that I use for the majority of my music library house-keeping. Here's the workflow;

  1. Open the folder containing your music library
  2. Select all
  3. Within the left-hand Tag Panel, right-click (or control+click) on the cover art and click adjust... from the contextual menu
  4. Apply the above settings
  5. That's it

I had the chance to test the results today, and along with all available cover art showing in rekordbox, they also displayed as expected within the jog wheels of a CDJ-3000.
